Coast Guard responds to rig fire in Bayou Perot

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to a rig fire in Bayou Perot Wednesday, approximately 20 miles south of New Orleans.

Watchstanders at Marine Safety Unit Houma, La., received a call at approximately 10 a.m., from Louisiana Delta Oil that there had been a fire aboard a Grosse Tete work-over rig that reportedly injured three crewmembers.

The injured crewmembers were taken by boat from the rig to an awaiting ambulance and then transported to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The fire is out.

Following a Coast Guard overflight to conduct an environmental assessment of the bayou, there are no reports of pollution.
