Coast Guard Responds to Plane Crash Off Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – Coast Guard Station Milwaukee and Air Station Traverse City responded to witness reports of a plane crash one and one-half miles off of Milwaukee in Lake Michigan at approximately 4 p.m. today.

The Coast Guard coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration to search for a Cessna Citation jet with six persons on board. Two people were the flight crew and four were members of the Univ. of Michigan organ transplant team.

The crew reported engine problems and planned to return to Milwaukee.

The transit was scheduled to be from here to Willow Run, Mich.

An oil sheen and debris field are visible from the crash.

A press conference was to be held at the McKinley Marina in Milwaukee at 8 p.m., Central Standard Time.

The incident is currently under investigation.
