BOSTON — The Coast Guard and other agencies responded to a plane crash about 100 yards off South Cape Beach, Mass., Mon. Aug. 2, 2010.
Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a call around noon from the Mashpee Fire dispatch reporting a single engine airplane had crashed into the water with two people aboard.
The two people were recovered by beach lifeguards. The pilot is reported to have sustained minor injuries. There is no report of injury to the passenger.
The sector dispatched a boat crew from Coast Guard Station Woods Hole, a Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and the Coast Guard Cutter Ridley from Montauk, NY.
Mashpee Fire Department, the harbor master and commercial vessels in the area also responded.
Coast Guard pollution investigators are en route.
The cause of the crash is unknown.
