MORRO BAY, Calif. – The Coast Guard responded to a report of an overturned 18-foot boat with three people onboard in the surf about one mile south of Morro Bay, Oct. 2.
The Coast Guard dispatched a MH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, a 25-foot rescue boat and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Morro Bay, and the Coast Guard Cutter Blackfin.
California Fire Surf Rescue, Morro Bay Harbor Patrol, and California State Parks also responded.
California Fire Surf Rescue recovered all three people from the water and transferred them to the Morro Bay Fire Department for transport to Sierra Vista Regional Hospital.
Two of the people rescued survived while one was pronounced deceased.
