HOUSTON — The Coast Guard is responding to an oil spill near Deer Park, Texas, Saturday.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report of a diesel spill at the Intercontinental Terminals Company Deer Park facility.
At 1:45, Vessel Traffic Service Houston-Galveston closed the Houston Ship Channel from Tucker’s Bayou to Lt. 133.
Personnel from Sector Houston-Galveston Incident Management Division and Waterways Facilities Inspection Division were launched to the scene and confirmed a locomotive fuel tank at the facility had been punctured. A max potential estimate of 300 gallons of diesel was released into the waterway around ITC Dock #1.
Vacuum trucks, skimmers and containment boom were deployed. At this time there is no impact to the Houston Ship Channel.
At 4:35 p.m., Vessel Traffic Service Houston-Galveston reopened the Houston Ship Channel to all vessel traffic.
The Coast Guard will continue to monitor recovery efforts.
