Coast Guard responds to oil discharge near Pilottown, Louisiana

National Response Center LogoNEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to an oil discharge near Pilottown, Louisiana, Tuesday.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 10:00 a.m. that approximately 840 gallons of crude oil entered the Lower Mississippi River near South Pass from a corroded flow line.

OMI Environmental Solutions has deployed approximately 1,200 feet of sorbent boom around the source and 400 feet of hard boom to collect any discharge that passed the sorbent boom.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
