CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Coast Guard is continuing to respond to a grounded 39-foot shrimp vessel in the Brownsville Ship Channel, Friday.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call from a good Samaritan reporting they had witnessed the 39-foot shrimp boat John Henry run aground and roll over in the Brownsville Ship Channel, Thursday. A Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi HH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew, and a Coast Guard Station South Padre Island 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boat and crew were both launched to the scene.
There are no reports of injuries.
Marine Services has been hired to salvage the vessel after high tide failed to refloat the shrimp vessel. The vessel is believed to have approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel on board.
Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Brownsville is currently overseeing the salvage operation to ensure it is properly completed. The Brownsville Ship Channel is open to all vessel traffic.
