Coast Guard responds to fishing boat accident

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Coast Guard responded to a fishing boat accident 12-miles off South Padre Island, Texas, this morning.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi received a call at about 5 a.m. from the master of the fishing boat Debbe Ann. The master reported that at approximately 3 a.m., while one of his fishermen was climbing in the rigging, a couple of cables snapped and wrapped around him. Coast Guard Station South Padre Island dispatched a rescue boat crew to assist.

When the rescue boat crew arrived on scene, the master informed them it was too dangerous to climb into the rigging. The boat crew is escorting the Debbe Ann into Port Isabel, Texas.
