Coast Guard responds to drifting bouy

SEATTLE – The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Fir is responding to reports of a drifting buoy last seen five miles southwest of Ledbetter Point Wash., today.

The Columbia River Approach Lighted Whistle Buoy (CR), which is normally located six and a half miles southwest of Cape Disappointment at 46 degrees 11 minutes north latitude and 124 degrees 11 minutes west longitude, has broken free from its mooring and is expected to wash up on Long Beach sometime tonight.

The CR buoy is still fully functioning and relaying information. The buoy is government property and should not be tampered with.

The crew of the Fir will keep a live watch until the buoy is recovered.
