Coast Guard Responds to Downed Plane

SAN FRANCISCO — The Coast Guard received a report of a downed Cessna airplane in the vicinity of the Dumbarton Bridge at approximately 10:20 Friday evening.

A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station San Francisco along with Fremont Fire Department and CHP responded. Fremont Fire Department and CHP arrived first on scene to find that the Cessna had made an emergency landing in the marshy area northeast of the bridge. Fremont Fire Department and CHP officials escorted the uninjured pilot to safety. A Coast Guard helicopter remained on scene during the response to provide assistance.

There is no report of pollution from the downed airplane. The pilot reported the airplane’s 50 gallon fuel tank was approximately half full at the time of the emergency landing. Coast Guard pollution investigators will be on scene today to conduct a more thorough inspection of the area.
