CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coast Guard and other state and local agencies are searching for a downed Cessna 340 aircraft, which was reported to have four people aboard near the Stono River Bridge today.
No survivors have been rescued at this time.
The Coast Guard received the report of the downed aircraft at approximately 1:45 p.m. from the Charleston County Police Department.
The Coast Guard has an HH-65 helicopter from Air Facility Charleston, a Coast Guard Station Charleston small boat and the small boat from the Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin, homeported in Charleston, on scene and searching. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Charleston County Police are also assisting in the search.
Coast Guard crews have located debris and an oil sheen from the aircraft in the Stono River.
The incident is under investigation.
