Coast Guard responds to bomb threat aboard cruise ship

MIAMI – Coast Guard crews in Miami, along with their federal law enforcement partners, responded to a report of a bomb threat aboard the cruise ship Liberty of the Seas Saturday.

Staff at Royal Caribbean’s reservation center in Witchita, Kan., received a call reporting a bomb aboard the Liberty of the Seas around 5 p.m. Saturday. Staff aboard the cruise ship conducted interior security sweeps of the vessel and were unable to corroborate the threat.

Liberty of the Seas continued to its final destination and moored at the Port of Miami Sunday around 6:00 a.m. Coast Guard crews escorted the ship in to the Port of Miami. FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection agents conducted a pier-side boarding of the vessel and no explosive material was found. The Liberty of the Seas has been permitted to resume operations.

The FBI is investigating the incident.
