Coast Guard responds to boating accident off Annapolis Md.

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard responded to an accident Friday involving two boats near the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.

A 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew form Coast Guard Station Annapolis was in the area for a different response and witnessed the accident between the two vessels.

The collision injured three boaters.

“The first boat we came alongside had eight people aboard,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Jacob Wieduwilt, the coxswain on the responding RB-M. “We had two of our crewmen board their boat to treat the injured while we towed them to the Naval Academy pier to meet with local EMS.”

Anne Arundel emergency medical personnel made the decision to airlift one boater, transfer another to a local hospital and the third refused to be transferred.

There was no report of pollution. Maryland Natural Resource Police is investigating the accident.
