Coast Guard responds to boathouse fire

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard is responding to a potential oil spill resulting from a boathouse fire in Tacoma, Wash., today.

A boathouse moored in the Ole and Charlie’s Marina in the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma caught fire this afternoon. The fire was put out by the Tacoma Fire Department who is investigating the cause of the incident.

Two pollution investigators from Coast Guard Sector Seattle are currently on scene. The Coast Guard has hired the National Response Corporation to deploy boom around the burned vessels. While no pollution has been observed thus far, the boom is a precautionary measure to minimize environmental damage should any oil be released.
