Coast Guard responds to Anclote Key boat fire

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Coast Guard responded to a boat fire, northwest of Anclote Key, Fla., Friday.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received notification of a fire on a fishing vessel with two people aboard at 12:23 p.m., Friday.

Joshua Sanchez of Tarpon Springs made a radio distress call, reporting his boat, the 46-foot fishing vessel Miss Dolores, on fire approximately four miles northwest of Anclote Key. A Coast Guard Station Sand Key 25-foot Response Boat Small crew was immediately launched.

The boatcrew arrived on scene at 12:49 p.m., to find the vessel engulfed in flames, and both passengers safely aboard a Good Samaritan vessel who had been in the vicinity.

The boatcrew established a 500 yard safety zone around the vessel. The vessel has capsized and is in danger of sinking. A Hazard to Navigation Broadcast has been issued.

No injuries have been reported
