Coast Guard Responds to an Aircraft Emergency Landing on the Ohio River

CARROLLTON, KY – The Coast Guard responded to an emergency landing made by the pilot of a small, privately owned aircraft in the Ohio River near Carrollton, Ky. at approximately 11 a.m. today.

A Coast Guard response boat crew from Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley was dispatched to the scene to assist local responders and determine if it was safe for vessels to transit past the incident site. The Coast Guard response team determined that the navigation channel was not impacted and it was safe for vessel traffic to transit.

The Coast Guard is working with the owner of the aircraft to develop a salvage plan to have it safely removed from the Ohio River and minimize any potential environmental impact.

All three occupants of the aircraft were able to swim to shore and were uninjured.

The FAA and the Kentucky State Police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
