Coast Guard responds to ailing man aboard charter vessel near Astoria, Ore.

Pacific Northwest Coast Guard NewsASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard responded to an ailing man aboard a charter vessel near Astoria, Monday.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received word from the charter vessel Stardust at approximately 8:16 a.m., that a man aboard the vessel had fainted after falling ill while fishing aboard the vessel.

A 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, in Ilwaco, Wash., was dispatched to the scene, where a Coast Guard medic was transferred to the vessel to ascertain the man’s condition. Finding the man stable, a 25-foot response boat crew transported emergency medical personnel to the Stardust who stayed with man while it transited to Station Cape Disppointment.

The man was then taken to a local hosptial, still in stable condition.
