Coast Guard responds to 3 different distress calls in South Texas

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Coast Guard responded to 3 different distress calls on Saturday.

The Coast Guard medevaced a 50 year old woman from a vessel 25 miles offshore of Port Aransas, Texas.

A watchstander at Coast Guard Station Port Aransas received a radio call from the Captain of motor vessel LA PESCA at approximately 10:20 a.m. today reporting a passenger on board who appeared to be having a heart attack. The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat crew from Station Port Aransas to go to the vessel.

The rescue boat crew medevaced the passenger back Station Port Aransas where an ambulance was waiting and took her to North Bay hospital.

The Coast Guard rescued 3 people from a sinking 17-foot center console boat in Aransas Bay 2 miles east of Rockport, Texas.

Aransas County Sheriff’s Department reported a boat taking on water at approximately 5:12 p.m. today. The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat crew from Station Port Aransas to assist. The rescue boat crew located the submerged vessel and recovered 3 people in the water.

No injuries were reported and they were taken to the boat ramp at Goose Island, Texas where they parked their vehicles.

The Coast Guard rescued 6 people from a capsized 20-foot sailboat 26 miles east of Palacios, Texas.

A watchstander from Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call at 5:15 p.m. today from Rotor Craft Leasing reporting that one of their helicopters discovered a capsized boat. The civilian helicopter remained on scene and reported that 4 people swam to Brazoria 446 off-shore rig while 2 people with lifejackets were swept away by the current. Coast Guard Air Station Houston and Air Station Corpus Christi launched HH-65 helicopter rescue crews to assist. The two people in the water were located at 5:40 p.m.

The two helicopter rescue crews hoisted all six people and transported them to Palacios Airport where an ambulance was waiting and took them to the hospital.
