Coast Guard Responds to 2 Boats on Fire

Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. – Coast Guard Sector Detroit assisted the Grosse Pointe Farms Fire Department with two pleasure crafts on fire, which had one minor injury to one of the owners, at the Pier Park, Grosse Pointe Farms this morning.

Station Belle Isle and Station St. Clair Shores assisted with the firefighting efforts, and a Sector Detroit pollution investigation team responded and is on scene.

The owner was transferred to St. Joseph Hospital for minor burns.

The two boats burned to the water line and sunk in place at slips 61 and 62. A couple of other small boats moored in the vicinity reported some fire damage as well, but the dock and marina were saved.

The Coast Guard is working closely with Marine Pollution Company of Rouge River to assist with the clean-up of fuel-oil.

Both vessels will be raised and salvaged today.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Grosse Pointe Farms Public Safety Department.
