Coast Guard Responding to Vessel on Fire in Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska- The Coast Guard is responding to a 253-foot fishing vessel (F/V) reporting a fire on board 136 miles northeast of Dutch Harbor.

The F/V Pacific Glacier contacted the Coast Guard at 6:26 p.m. this evening requesting assistance with a fire on board. Currently 16 of the 106 crew members are continuing to fight the fire while the remaining 90 have been transferred to near-by vessels.

The Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) Alex Haley is transiting to the Pacific Glacier’s position and should be on scene within five hours.

A Coast Guard rescue helicopter from the CGC Haley and a Coast Guard C-130 from Air Station Kodiak are enroute to assess the situation.

The Pacific Glacier is based out of Seattle.

Currently there have been no reported injuries.
