PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard and local agencies are responding Monday to a train derailment over the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
Local police notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay at approximately 1 a.m. and reported a train derailed on the Schuylkill Arsenal Bridge. The rail cars are reported to be carrying crude oil.
A 25-foot Response Boat — Small crew from Coast Guard Station Philadelphia is enforcing a safety zone in the river south of the bridge.
A team of Coast Guard pollution responders from Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay is also on scene.
There is no report of material leaking from the derailed cars.
