Coast Guard responding to report of plane crash off New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coast Guard and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office are responding to reports of a downed single engined aircraft near New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Wednesday.

The Coast Guard was notified at approximately 6:40 p.m. Wednesday that a fixed-wing single engine aircraft was seen spiraling towards the sea approximately 150-yards off of Bethune Beach in Volusia County.

A 47-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Ponce de Leon Inlet, the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Kingfisher and Volusia County Air One helicopter air crew are responding.
