Coast Guard responding to oil discharge near Southwest Pass

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are responding to a crude oil discharge near Southwest Pass, Thursday.

An estimated maximum potential of 840 gallons of crude oil reportedly discharged from a flowline, owned by Texas Petroleum Management, into a marsh. The flowline is reportedly secured.

Oil Mop, an oil spill response organization, has placed containment boom to prevent further impact to the area.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
