Coast Guard Responding to Container Ship Fire

KODIAK, Alaska (CG Public Affairs) – The Coast Guard is responding to a fire aboard a 781-foot container ship with 32 people onboard 700 miles south of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

The command center in Juneau received the report at about 12:30 (AKDT) a.m. today from the Republic of Malta flagged Vessel, India Lotus. A Coast Guard C-130 from Air Station Kodiak, Alaska and the 378-foot Coast Guard Cutter Mellon are en route.

The Mellon is approximately 800 miles away, the C-130 is expected to be on scene at about 6 a.m.
