Coast Guard responding after Minnie Mouse sinks at entrance to Miami River

MIAMI – The acting Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Capt. Cyndi Stowe, has closed the Miami River to inbound and outbound traffic following a tug boat sinking Tuesday.

Coast Guard Sector Miami received a report at 10:35 a.m. from the motor vessel Bimini Cat that the 25-foot tug boat, Minnie Mouse, sank at the entrance to the Miami River. The tug boat Minnie Mouse, owned by Jones Boat Yard, was assisting the Bimini Cat when it sank.

Sector Miami crewmembers are monitoring salvage operations and reports of a fuel spill sheen from the vessel.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
