Galveston, TX – The U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Texas Army and Air National Guard, and Texas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve will host SEALIFT 2011 Friday, April 8, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Coast Guard Sector Field Officer Galveston, 1 Ferry Road in Galveston.
SEALIFT is an event that encourages the continued cooperation from employers who employ men and women drilling with the Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Texas Army and Air National Guard. More than 100 Houston/Galveston area employers will spend the day at Coast Guard Sector Field Officer Galveston to experience and take part in live shore-side and in-water demonstrations, tours of both the Galveston Coast Guard and Marine Corps bases, and board the Coast Guard Cutter Harry Claiborne for a short excursion on Galveston Bay.
“SEALIFT 2011 is a military public outreach event that informs and promotes support for reserve U.S. military personnel by teaching some of what these part-time men and women do when called to full-time active duty and while drilling on weekends,” said Coast Guard Cmdr. Ken Anderson, coordinator of the 2011 SEALIFT event.
“Employers’ cooperation in sharing their employees with our national guard and reserve forces is essential to our nation maintaining a successful defense strategy. Employers’ sacrifices in support of our military forces are not widely publicized, but without their continuous support our national guard and reserve components could not meet their military commitments,” said Dr. Jerry Icenhower, chairman of ESGR.
ESGR is a Department of Defense agency promoting employers’ support for the National Guard and reservists. To learn more about ESGR, visit their website at www.esgr.mil or www.txesgr.net
