Coast Guard Rescues Woman Who Fell From Cliff

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. – The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a helicopter rescue of an 18 year-old woman after she fell approximately 75 feet from Strawberry Rock, 2 miles northeast of Trinidad, CA early Friday morning.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Friday morning the Coast Guard responded to a request from California Fire assets to assist in the recovery and transport of a woman who fell from Strawberry Rock. Coast Guard Group/Air Station Humboldt Bay dispatched an HH-65C rescue helicopter commanded by LT Kevin Winters and assisted by LTJG Brian Ahearn at 1:48 a.m.

Once on scene, the crew’s rescue swimmer, AST2 Dave Foreman, was lowered down to the rock to assist California Fire personnel stabilize the patient and transfer her to a stokes litter for hoisting. The woman was hoisted into the helicopter, where flight mechanic AMT3 Emily Webb assisted the rescue swimmer in stabilizing the patient while en-route to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka. The woman was later transported to UC Davis in Sacramento, CA for a fractured pelvis and lung injury.
