Coast Guard rescues woman from jetty

BODEGA BAY, Calif. – Crews from Coast Guard Station Bodega Bay, in a joint effort with rescuers from the Calif. State Parks service, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bodega Bay Fire Department, medically evacuated an injured woman from a rock, jetty wall at the entrance of Bodega Bay, yesterday.

The Coast Guard received the report of the injured woman from the parks service around 11 a.m. A 25-foot response boat was launched, and land-based rescuers walked the quarter-mile long jetty to reach the woman.

Once on scene, rescuers found the injured woman required a backboard and helicopter evacuation. Within minutes, Sonoma County Sheriff’s helicopter Henry 1 arrived and lowered two more medical personnel to the scene. The patient was loaded onto a stokes litter and lifted to awaiting paramedics on shore. The patient was then transported to the hospital for evaluation.
