Coast Guard Rescues Two South of Monterey

SAN FRANCISCO, Calf. – The Coast Guard rescued two persons off a 39 foot disabled sailing vessel SADIE one mile west of Lopez Point, approximately 45 miles south of Monterey.

Sector San Francisco received the distress call at 10:25 a.m. and immediately launched a HH65 helicopter from Air Station San Francisco, a 47 foot motor life boat from Station Morro Bay and a 47 foot motor life boat from Station Monterey to respond, issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast via radio and notified the Monterey National Marine Sanctuary.

The Coast Guard helicopter successfully hoisted both persons after they disembarked the sailing vessel.

National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration is working with the vessel owner to determine a salvage plan for the vessel which has an estimated 30 gallons of fuel on board.
