Coast Guard rescues two people in Hampton Bays, New York

47 ShinnecockHAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. – The Coast Guard responded to two people in distress near the Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays, New York, Thursday.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center in New Haven, Conn., received a call from Southampton Police Department reporting two people in the water wearing life jackets in the vicinity of the Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays, New York.

Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched a Coast Guard Station Shinnecock rescue boatcrew.

At 11:41 p.m., the Station boatcrew arrived on scene and located two men standing on wooden pilings toward the center span of the bridge.

The rescue boatcrew safely recovered both subjects and transported them to Station Shinnecock to awaiting emergency medical services, where they declined medical attention.
