WARRENTON, Ore. — A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew rescued two boaters after their pleasure craft began taking on water and sank 10 miles north of Port Townsend, Washington, Thursday.
The two men were successfully hoisted from the water and taken to Whidbey Island Hospital for further medical evaluation.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound Command Center received the mayday from the operator of the 34-foot pleasure craft Adalade reporting that they were taking on water and issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and directed the launch of the helicopter crew. A good Samaritan vessel, responding to the UMIB, arrived on scene and reported seeing two people in the water. Shortly thereafter, the helicopter crew arrived on scene and hoisted the two individuals.
During the transport the Coast Guard rescue swimmer stayed behind to be picked up from a Coast Guard Station Puget Sound 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew.
The Adalade is reported to be completely submerged and has shown no signs of pollution at this time.
Weather on scene at the time of the incident is reported as 20 mph winds and 4-foot seas.
