Coast Guard rescues two near Port Mansfield

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi MH65-C Dolphin helicopter crew rescued two men whose truck had been swamped by an unusually high tide near Port Mansfield, Texas, Tuesday.

The aircrew noticed the two men struggling to free a truck that was stuck in the surf line and lowered a rescue swimmer to investigate.

The men were hoisted and taken to Coast Guard Station South Padre Island in good condition.

While on its original mission, which was to fly over people on the beach and the Padre Island National Seashore to drop information bulletins that warned of Hurricane Alex and dangerous beach conditions, the helicopter crew saw two other vehicles that were stranded on the beach.
