Coast Guard rescues two kayakers

Northeast Atlantic Coast Guard NewsBOSTON — A Coast Guard rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Burlington, Vt., pulled two kayakers from the water near North Beach on Lake Champlain, Aug. 23, 2012.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England received a report at approximately 1:20 p.m., that a kayak had capsized and one person was in the water.

A second kayaker was on scene but was unable to pull the person out of the water. Coast Guard Station Burlington immediately launched a 25-foot response boat small to recover the kayakers. Both were brought on board the Coast Guard boat and safely transported back the Station Burlington.

“The crews were able to mount a quick response,” said Chief Petty Officer Randy Bucklin, command duty officer at Sector Northern New England. “The wind began to pick up and the coxswain from the station was able to get both kayakers back safely before either got into trouble.”
