Coast Guard Rescues Two In Chincoteague Bay

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – A 23-foot boat crew from Coast Guard Station Chincoteague rescued two people from the water after their canoe capsized in Chincoteague Bay Saturday.

Two boat crew members from Station Chincoteague responded after a bystander from Chincoteague Island called Coast Guard Sector Field Office Eastern Shore, Va., to report the over turned canoe. After arriving on scene, the boat crew rescued a woman from Kentucky and a man from Maryland, and towed their canoe to a dock just north of Chincoteague Swing Bridge.

“It is very important that you check the weather and tides before you go out on the water,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Will Lazenby, a machinery technician with Station Chincoteague.

The Coast Guard reminds all mariners to be aware of current and future weather conditions, wearing the appropriate life jackets and letting someone know your intentions while you are out on the water.
