Coast Guard Rescues Two From Fishing Boat

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard medevaced two men from a fishing vessel approximately 30 miles south of Vermillion Bay, La., this morning.

The Eighth Coast Guard District Command Center began receiving a 406-MHz emergency position indicating radio beacon around 8:15 p.m., signaling distress aboard the fishing vessel St. Michael with no position data and, Coast Guard Sector New Orleans’ watchstanders received radio relay calls from Good Samaritan vessels concerning two crewmen of the same vessel, ages 48 and 46, reportedly suffering from an allergic reactions to food.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched a HH-65C rescue helicopter and crew to the scene.

At approximately 11 p.m. the helicopter crew located the vessel, medevaced the two men and transported them to an awaiting ambulance at Lafayette Regional Airport, La. The men were transported by ambulance to Lafayette General Hospital.
