HOUSTON — The Coast Guard rescued two people from their 45-foot catamaran after they ran aground on the Galveston Jetties and began taking on water early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., Galveston Police called Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders reporting that a passing pilot boat saw the catamaran’s lights flashing at them and called 911.
Watchstanders called the passengers and instructed them to put on their life jackets.
They directed the launch of a boatcrew aboard a Coast Guard Station Galveston 45-foot response boat and a Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 helicopter aircrew.
Once on scene, the boatcrew reported a significant amount of water in the catamaran and a large hole in the starboard bow. The passengers were transferred to the 45-foot boat and taken to Station Galveston.
