Coast Guard rescues two boaters near Hilton Head Island

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Coast Guard rescued two boaters in the vicinity of Port Royal Sound near Hilton Head Island after calling 911 to report their fishing vessel was taking on water.

A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah, Ga., HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crew hoisted the two boaters from the water shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday. Both boaters were wearing lifejackets.

The rescue aircrew transported both boaters to Hilton Head Airport. Their were no injuries reported.

The Coast Guard reminds boaters to have proper emergency equipment onboard their vessels at all times. These items include: lifejackets, a registered 406 Mhz Electronic Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), marine band radio and proper signaling equipment such as flares, whistles and signaling mirrors.
