JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard rescued two mariners after their boat ran aground Saturday night in the St. Johns river entrance, in Jacksonville, Fla.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center were notified of the incident via a “Mayday” call coming from the crew of the 73-foot fishing vessel Carolina Girl 3. The mariners stated the vessel had run aground on the north side of the jetties of the St. Johns River entrance and was taking on water.

A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Mayport responded aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium at approximately 11:51 p.m. The Station Mayport crew brought two pumps aboard the Carolina Girl 3 to begin dewatering. Due to the amount of water that was entering the vessel, the two mariners were transferred onto the Coast Guard rescue boat.

Neither of the mariners reported any injuries.
