Coast Guard Rescues Three Stranded Boaters

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued three people from a stranded boat on a remote beach east of Grand Isle, LA today.

A duty watchstander received the call for assistance last night after one of the men aboard the vessel texted a friend from a cell phone stating they were disabled and stranded somewhere near Grand Isle, LA. The 17 foot vessel and the three men aboard became stranded late yesterday when large waves swamped the engine, forcing them to ground their vessel.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to search for the stranded boaters. After numerous searches both last night and early this morning the helicpter crew located the men stranded on a remote beach about 17 miles east of Grand Isle, LA. The three men, all residents of Harvey, LA were hoisted to the helicopter which transported them in good condition to Grand Isle.
