SAN FRANCISCO – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued three adults, two male and one female, from the water after their vessel capsized 2 nautical miles northwest of Point Bonita, Calif, today around 8:30 a.m.
Coast Guard Sector San Francisco received the distress call from the vessel’s operator reporting his vessel was taking on water after large swells over the stern began to flood the vessel.
A 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Golden Gate and a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station San Francisco were launched to the scene. A good samaritan and the Pilot Boat San Francisco responded to the Coast Guard’s urgent marine information broadcast and diverted to the scene as well. The 47-foot motor lifeboat arrived on scene and recovered the three adults from the water as they clinged to the overturned hull.
No injuries were reported.
The Coast Guard reminds boaters to equip their vessels with proper safety equipment, have an operational marine VHF radio on board, and file a float plan with a friend or family member on land. Mariners should check current and forecasted weather conditions prior to getting underway and remain aware of changing conditions once on the water.
