Coast Guard rescues three boaters near mouth of Yaquina River

13th Coast Guard District NewsSEATTLE – The Coast Guard rescued three people, Saturday, after their 17-foot recreational vessel capsized approximately 100 yards off shore near the mouth of the Yaquina River.

Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay, located in Newport, Ore., was notified of the accident by a nearby fisherman who reported four people in the water at approximately 9 a.m. Station Yaquina Bay launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew and arrived on scene to find the three people in the water and a surfer who came to their aid.

The motor lifeboat crew recovered the three boaters and transported them to emergency medical service personnel on shore. The surfer returned to the beach under his own accord.

The boaters suffered minor injuries. One boater was transported to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
