Coast Guard rescues three boaters in St. Simons Sound

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Coast Guard rescued three boaters in the St. Simons Sound, Friday.

Rescued were Peter Michelson, Aidan Michelson and Jeremiah Michelson.

Coast Guard Station Brunswick received report from a 911-relay call at approximately 2:23 p.m., Friday stating that the Michelson’s 16-foot vessel became submerged after hitting a roage wave and all three boaters were in the water in need of assistance.

Coast Guard Station Brunswick launched a 25-foot rescue boat crew to the scene.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the crew arrived on scene and recovered all three boaters safetly.

The 16-foot vessel was towed to Jekyll Island Boat ramp.

All three boaters were wearing life jackets and no injuries were reported.

The Coast Guard urges all boaters to wear life jackets. In 2011, 84% of all drowning victims were reported to not be wearing a life jacket. To learn more about safe boating practices please visit
