ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Coast Guard rescued three people in the water after their small boat capsized at approximately 5:00 p.m. today.
Coast Guard Station Rochester received notification of people in distress after one person on-board the vessel “Spirit Wind” made radio may-day calls. A Station Rochester crew launched their 47-foot utility boat to assist the boaters. A good samaritan noticed the people in distress and was enroute to assist as well.
Once on-scene, the Station Rochester crew pulled the three people out of the water on-board their boat and transited back to Braddock Bay. The good samaritan took the boat in tow and followed the Coast Guard into the harbor.
All three people on-board the “Spirit Wind” were wearing life jackets.
The Coast Guard recommends that all boaters should wear a life jacket at all times, as in this situation, the life jackets may have saved all of their lives.
