Coast Guard Rescues Thirteen People After Pier is Destroyed

PORT ARANSAS, TX – The wake from motor tank vessel SKS TIET destroyed 25 feet of the Port Street Public Pier in Port Aransas at approximately 5:30 p.m. today.

Two Coast Guard rescue boats from Coast Guard Station Port Aransas immediately responded and safely transported thirteen people to shore who were left stranded at the end of the pier. The rescue was completed within thirty minutes and no injuries were reported.

The tank vessel was headed outbound in the Port Aransas Ship Channel and is reported to have been traveling at a normal speed. A coastal flood watch was in effect during the time of incident.
