Coast Guard Station Two Rivers rescues swimmer near Manitowoc Harbor

9th Coast Guard District NewsCLEVELAND — A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Two Rivers, Wis., rescued a person in the water, Saturday morning.

Rescued was a man who had been swimming near Manitowoc Harbor.

While underway on a routine patrol at about 11:30 a.m., CDT, the boatcrew saw a good Samaritan attempting to pull the distressed swimmer out of the water. The boatcrew brought the man aboard their 25-foot Response Boat-Small when the good Samaritan was unable to assist the man onto their vessel. He was brought to Station Two Rivers and transferred to waiting emergency medical services.

The Coast Guard urges swimmers to recreate in designated swimming areas and to avoid swimming near breakwalls and similar structures. Swimming conditions near breakwalls are unpredictable and unique since the structures are intended to protect harbors and marinas, and often cause strong currents and pounding waves in the water surrounding them.
