Coast Guard rescues surfer near Indian Point in Cannon Beach, Ore.

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued a surfer near Indian Point in Cannon Beach, Ore., Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, Ore., received notification, at approximately 6:30 p.m., from Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue that there were potentially two surfers stranded on the rocks near Indian Point.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Wash., were dispatched to the scene.

The Jayhawk aircrew arrived on scene and determined there was only one surfer in distress.

Matthew Froese, 32, was safely rescued by and hoisted aboard the helicopter. He was then transported to Cannon Beach where he was met by local EMS.

He was reported in good condition and did not require medical attention.
