SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued a surfer who was reported missing off of Cannon Beach, Ore., Friday.
After conducting an extensive search, a rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, Ore., located the surfer around 7 p.m. and hoisted him to safety.
A motor lifeboat crew from Station Cape Disappointment, Wash., and Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue crews also assisted in the search.
The reporting source said they had witnessed the surfer in distress and struggling with large waves when they lost sight of him.
The rescue helicopter crew transferred the surfer to awaiting Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue crews at Cannon Beach.
