Coast Guard rescues surfer in trouble

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard received a report of three surfers in distress at the Devils Punch Bowl near Otter Rock,Ore., at about 11:30 a.m., today.

Coast Guard Air Station North Bend launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and Station Depoe Bay dispatched a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew to assist.

When the helicopter crew arrived on scene they learned two of the men were able to make it to shore. The third man was stranded on some rocks about 100 yards from the shore. The helicopter crew hoisted the man and transported him to awaiting EMS on shore.

No one was injured.
