NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued a man from a small fishing boat approximately 4 miles west of Slidell, near the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, early this morning.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from the man requesting assistance at 11:30 p.m., Saturday, reporting that his boat was grounded. A local marine towing company responded and attempted several times to reach him, but was unable due to the shallow water.
After losing communications with the man, a HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched to assist the man. He was safely hoisted and transported to the air station where he was met by waiting family members.
