Coast Guard rescues stranded kayaker near Deception Pass, Wash.

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued a man stranded on a rock after his kayak overturned near Deception Pass, Wash., Thursday.

At approximately 12 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a call stating two kayaks had overturned near Deception Pass.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., and the crew of Cutter Adelie, also from Port Angeles, were sent to the scene.

The crew of Cutter Adelie arrived on scene at approximately 12:15 p.m., lowered a 17-foot cutter boat crew and rescued one of the kayakers who had become stranded on a rock.

The other overturned kayaker was rescued from the water by Deception Pass State Park rangers.

Both kayakers were transported to shore and treated by local EMS.
